The “fastest mud rotary in the country”

C&J Well Drilling has owned more than a dozen drills over the last few decades. And owner Josh Abdnour hopes to keep his newest addition a secret from his competitors.

Josh Abdnour was twenty-four years old when his boss offered to sell him a rig to drill as a subcontractor. Now, over five decades later, C&J Well Drilling has about twenty employees and a handful of rigs. They recently added their tenth Versa-Drill—a V-125X—to the Brownsburg, Indiana-based family.

“Our customers have come to expect that we’re going to use the latest and greatest stuff,” Abdnour said. “This is our tenth drill with Versa-Drill; we have a lot of confidence in them.”

C&J Well Drilling hasn’t always used Versa-Drill.

“Before we discovered Versa-Drill, we were working with another brand. One day, my electrician took a look at our drill, paused, cocked his head, and said, ‘You know, that kinda looks like someone went through a junkyard and piled it onto a truck.’ He was right. No one’s said anything like that since we switched to [Versa-Drill’s] products. Mr. Laibe has always built a streamlined, clean, light, top-notch machine.”

Abdnour needs his machines to be top-notch; he can’t afford equipment malfunctions out on the job. C&J Well Drilling meets both commercial and homeowner well and geothermal needs. They provide weekend and night emergency services, because, as Abdnour puts it, “Problems don’t take the day off, and neither do we!” Their diligence earned them the 2018 Angie’s List Super Service Award.

The relationship between C&J Drilling and Versa-Drill has been mutually beneficial. C&J Drilling communicates their needs to Versa-Drill, and Versa-Drill responds with updated features on their new drills. “Over time,” he said, “Versa-Drill has listened to our needs and produced machines that meet them. They’ve custom delivered according to our needs.”

C&J Drilling is serving its customers powerfully, partially thanks to its fleet of Versa-Drills.

“I shouldn’t say this, because I don’t want my competitors to find out about them, but I kinda think we might have the fastest mud rotary in the country.”
