V-12: The next generation of water well and geothermal drilling

The Versa-Drill V-12, designed for water well and geothermal drilling.

Meet the V-12: a light and compact rig for water well drilling and geothermal drilling jobs. Easily navigate your tightest, muddiest job sites to get in and out fast.

With 12,000 lbs. pullback and 7,000 lbs. pulldown set atop a RAM 5500 Tradesman, the V-12 is the most compact rig in the Versa-Drill fleet. It’s user friendly. It’s simple to service. And it’s not going to spend valuable time in the shop.

The Versa-Drill V-12 combines the dependability and grit of our existing lineup with the cutting-edge technology of modern, future-facing industries. It’s a simple, efficient and cost-effective addition to any fleet—packing surprising power and grit into a smaller frame for day-to-day drilling work.

Light and compact

These days, owners are finding it more and more difficult to recruit and train new drillers—especially because most rigs require the operator to hold a CDL. The V-12 eliminates that concern. Since this user-friendly rig is mounted on a standard 4x4 RAM truck, it doesn’t require a CDL to operate, which makes it ideal for training new operators or drillers helpers.

Due to a streamlined mechanical concept, the V-12 is also simpler and more compact than competitors’ equipment. First, the new design incorporates a simple feed system that eliminates unnecessary weight from the derrick assembly. This also means no cables, no pulleys and no rack and pinion. Second, Versa-Drill is changing the way the top head drives, reducing weight and cutting cost by replacing the traditional top-head gearbox with a powerful axial piston motor.

Simpler, less maintenance-heavy design

With the V-12, Versa-Drill engineers worked hard to design a simple rig that was meant to last. “We’re known for quality, and we’ve really worked hard to engineer this to be a simple rig in comparison to competitors products,” said Stephen Gessner, Versa-Drill’s engineering manager. “This rig should break less often, and when things break, they should cost less to fix.”

In short, the V-12 is crafted to epitomize the same old trusty equipment you’ve been using. It’s just better, smarter and easier to keep up, because it was engineered with maintenance costs in mind.

Clean, intuitive interface

The V-12 is designed to enable owners to spend less time training new drillers and more time working alongside them. The rig features a simplified operator’s panel with electronic controls in place of hydraulic controls, enabling new safety features and a more intuitive user experience.

While the control box maintains the same feel and function as the rest of Versa-Drill’s fleet, the updated interface makes the rig even easier to learn. Readouts on the console screen offer drillers more control and give them more information about the way their rig is running. Error codes make troubleshooting and maintenance easier. Now, when something goes wrong, an operator can place a quick call to Versa-Drill’s service line and relay the error code that appears on their rear display. An on-call technician helps them diagnose the problem and identify necessary replacement parts. This shortcut saves drillers days of downtime and expensive service fees, while aiding in preventative maintenance.

Best of all, the rig’s new computerized controls open the door to custom, programmable features that make an owner-operator’s job easier. Curious about what that means? Talk with our team about potential capabilities.
