CUSTOMER SPOTLIGHT: CITATION DRILLING WITH THEIR NEW VERSA-DRILL V-140X DRILLING RIG

Citation Drilling picking up their new V-140X drilling rig at the Versa-Drill headquarters in Indianapolis, IN

America was built on the promise of a dream. Often that dream includes starting a new business and climbing to success. Versa-Drill has had the honor to work with one such company as they began their own road to success in 2020 - Citation Drilling. With strong values and an unbeatable work ethic, they provide drilling services and install deep anode ground bells/cathodic protection.

Why Versa-Drill Drilling Rigs

We sat down with Drilling Sr. Driller Foreman, James Crowley, to find out how Citation Drilling began and why they have chosen Versa-Drill in their first year of business.

VD: Good morning, James! We’re really looking forward to talking and getting to know Citation Drilling. How did it all start?

JC: The idea for the company came after hiring a subcontractor to do all of the drilling and not having total control over our own success and destiny. We knew something had to change.

VD: So far it’s been a great idea. Do you have any advice for a new company?

JC: My advice is buy new equipment, hire highly qualified people, and trust them to perform the way they know how.

VD: Great advice, especially about new equipment. Which Versa-Drill product did you decide to buy and why?

JC: We bought a Versa Drill 140x and it’s our only rig currently. We plan to add another 140x early next year. I have operated Versa Drill rigs since 2016. I convinced the owner of Citation Drilling that this would be the best rig for what we are doing.

VD: From what you’ve seen, how are our products different or unique from the competition?

JC: Versa-Drill products are user friendly, safe, low maintenance, efficient, durable, reliable, easy to set up, and it fits in places that a lot of rigs can’t.

VD: As Citation Drilling continues to grow and develop, do you see yourself moving forward with more Versa-Drill rigs?

JC: I plan to use and buy Versa Drills in the future because I believe it’s the best rig out there. I’ve run lots of rigs over my 27 years of drilling, the Versa Drill 140x is by far the best rig I’ve ever had. The rig can be operated by one person, in and out of the hole. That frees up the rest of my crew for other things. The 140x in particular has plenty of power and it’s a lot quieter than a lot of the competitors. The 300’ Carousel is perfect for what we do. Most of our wells are 300’ or less, making it very efficient.

VD: That’s great to hear. We look forward to helping in your future success. What are your favorite features of the drilling rigs?

JC: I really love the hold back. The carousel, the controls are easily reached. I like the safety bypass points. It allows me to teach new drillers without worrying they’ll break something or hurt themselves and others in the process.

VD: Do you have any exemplary moments you’d like to share when Versa-Drill really helped your company? Whether that be through fast shipping, excellent customer service, unique adjustments or fulfillments of requests?

JC: I love Versa drill because we aren’t just a number. Everyone there knows who we are. The guys in the shop building these rigs do a great job. They treat you with respect when you visit, they always make time for you if you have any questions. It’s a wonderful experience.

Jimmy in the parts department is very friendly and nice. He knows the rigs inside and out. Marcus Laibe has always made himself available if ever I need something or I have a question. I would buy another rig or refer everyone I know to buy one from Laibe Corp. They make you feel like family, and that goes way beyond the initial sale of the rig.
